This work is based on transforming, by hand sewing, a plain white tshirt into another form with reference to historical costume. As tshirt is known for its simplicity in cut and fabrication and also its flatness, the key idea of this work is to explore the possibility of how a tshirt can be
transformed into a 3D form within the fashion framework.

A tshirt is an invention in modern day fashion which has become an important 'genre' in casual wear, representing marketability, low-cost machine production and a relative short product-life. This tshirt transformation takes reference from historical costume elements (i.e. the form of corset, smocking technique) to create comparisons between flatness/form, modern/historical, simplicity/sophistication, mass production/hand craft. The finished form is set in shape with emulsion paint, making it a permenant sculptural piece.
